Default Red charge light / engine light on

During a ride today my engine light came on as well as the charge light on my 2007 ultra classic with 38,000 miles. Got home started with some simple diagnostics... check battery connections, voltage across the battery with engine running then engine not running, Checked the codes and got P0562 (Battery Votage low EFI). The following were my battery readings:

Engine running 12.75 volts at Idle with an outside temp of 99 deg.
Engine not running 12.5 volts

I did pull the stator plug from behind my voltage regulator and it read 25 VAC. My multimeter is a cheapy so as far as ohms it starts at 20 and goes to 2000k. So as far as testing my stator / rotor output i think i'm stuck... unless someone can tell me of another way to check with a cheap multimeter. Or what i should read when checking resistance accross the pins with a cheap multimeter.
I have heard of the voltage regulators burning out however, i'm not one to throw parts at the bike until the symptom goes away.

Thanks in advance

same problem here. I have a 07 road glide, 55k miles. This has been happening on my scoot on and off for the last 3 months. I have cleaning and tightened both battery cables.
The last few times it did this, (battery light on/not charging), I killed the motor and restarted the bike. When I have done this it starts charging again.
Could this the regulator?

after doing the checks mine (06 RG) turned out to be the voltage regulator. Amazon had the cheapest Cycle Electric I could find at $165.00. Local dealer wanted $217.00+tax!

You can remove the derby cover & give it a smell, it'll stink to high heaven if the stator is bad!

I had a similar issue with the battery and check engine light except I didn't do voltage checks. It went from a coming on twice in a few weeks to several times during a short ride (volt meter going from 14 down to 10-11 and back). Mine was a 2012 which was covered by a service bulletin due to a faulty batch of voltage regulators. Dealer replaced it in about 10 minutes and have not had any problems since.

Default Red light came on

I had the same problem with my 07FLHTC !! It came on for a while and when it cooled of it would go off. I was in Arkansas and it came on so I stopped at " Toad Suck" Harley Davidson in Conway Arkansas where they took me in as soon as they opened up , did a check of my system and did not charge me anything. After riding another 50 miles it came on again so I took it back to Mt. View AK., put it on the trailer and took it home. Got home , took it off the trailer and everything was O.K.. Rode it the next day and light came back on. Replaced the voltage regulator and it cured the problem for about 60 days and it started again. Found out there was an issue with the new voltage regulators, and replaced it again. Knock or wood, it has been running great every sense.

Hey guys thanks for everyones help! I used the trouble shooting guides found in the forum and cycle electrics guides. Found it was indeed a bad regulator. I just did not want to start throwing parts at something with out a clue of what was actually happening.

Thanks

Dave

You can uproot the derby spread & provide for them it an emanation, it'll smell rancid if the stator is awful!
