Default cb problem

2007 ultra classic. I can not send ( I think since I called out on channel 19 a number of times and no one came back) or receive. I say I can't receive since when I am listening to radio it goes quiet at times like when someone is overriding signal with a cb transmission.
Problem is I don't hear anything. I have squelch way down so I should be able to hear anything.

There is a separate volume setting for the CB.

The Midland CBs on these bikes are marginal performers at best. If you ever measure the rf output (which I have) you will find it is pitifully low...in the area of 1 to 1.5 watts. Couple with that the shitty match to the antenna and an extremely short antenna for 27 mhz and what you have is something you can use to talk to folks about as far as you can see them.

You were probably experiencing some sky wave transmissions coming in without audio that were strong enough to open your receiver and mute your radio. That **** happens all the time, so get use to it. Lots of it comes out of Latin America and some from the southwest US.

Are you using a headset microphone or a handheld microphone? You will need one or the other. I usually leave the squelch set on 2 or 3 bars when traveling in a group. That seems to be a good setting to be able to receive the bikes in the group and block out most of the sky wave crap. YMMV

I use headset. CB had been working in the past. Even tried it at a Pilot truck stop and no answer. That is why I believe the radio was cutting out because some trucker was using his CB. but I did not get any answer when I tried to talk on channel 19.

I just contacted Iron Cross Audio about my problem with CB. Does not transmit or can I hear anything. Radio shuts when I try to transmit and at times radio shuts when going down interstate like when I believe some trucker is talking.

Iron Cross says the CB is an external module on the top of the radio and they DO NOT work on it.

Any ideas where to get CB for 2007 HD Ultra fixed??

nobody works on the CB units. If you want a replacement, you will have to go to the Classifieds or Ebay.

I thought my CB wasn't working for a long time because nobody ever answered, even near truck stops. Found out later that a lot of the truckers are using some form of Bluetooth now and not CB's, so you don't get much chatter. I guess the 80's are over.
What you are probably picking up that is muting your stereo is skip from high powered base stations, that aren't going to hear you trying to transmit to them, as you just don't have enough power. I get that a lot around an airport that I travel past in my daily commute. I got lucky one day that someone else was testing their radio about a mile ahead of me (using a handheld radio) and we were able to communicate fine. That was the last time I had an opportunity to use my radio. About the only thing they are good for anymore is bike to bike communication.

Try and find someone else that has a bike kit and test it out with them. You will probably find that there isn't anything wrong with your radio.

Good advice. I have a friend that has made his living working on CB radios for over 40 years. If you need one worked on, let me know and I'll put you in touch.
