Default Stretched fender overlay install

Has anyone here installed the stretched fender cover?

I am wondering how it is attached to the existing fender.

The fender I am looking at has no taillight so I am also wondering if people usually cut the fiberglass to accept the stock light or if it's better to go aftermarket.

Thanks.

I thought I would chime in, even though I did not do a fender overlay! I surely thought about doing one, but after reading, searching, and researching what others had to say, I decided to do the rear fender replacement, as well as the stretched bags.

I purchased my items from Bad Dad, and can honestly say I was VERY happy with the quality, and fitment. I took the stock rear fender & saddle bags off!

Did a quick mock build up with the unpainted fender & bags, and was shocked how easy this was, and how well they fit:

Off to the painter they went, and two-weeks later here is the finished product:

Anyways, don't shy away from the complete rear fender replacement, because the one I used from Bad Dad, was super strong, and worked perfectly! The lay-over one (You mentioned), from reading others posts require to have the tail-light area cut-out of the original factory fender, so when mounted to the new lay-over fender the rear of the light can be inset and mount properly on your new fender! So it does require some modification work for sure!

Had a fender overlay on my SG. Attached at the front with the 2 studs that the rider backrest attached to. Attached at the rear with a plate I fabbed up between the license plate bolts and the lower fender brace. Used some street rod L.E.D cateye tail lights. Didn't look like I " cheaped out" to me.

That looks good DuraGlide. Thanks for the tip on fastening the back of it with the plate bolts.

I went with a TopShop overlay on my StreetGlide.
Attachment was at the front at the seat studs, and the overlay was already cut for the stock SG rear light setup, they provided longer bolts so you could screw the light bar through the stock fender and overlay.
I actually have 2 overlays, one for a solo seat with no rear attachment hole drilled, the other one is for a 2 up seat which allows for the rear seat attachment to be used.
Here are a couple of pics, I taped up the rear fender before installing the overlay.

And for your rear OEM tail light, was the square cut to match original square in fender? And why 4 holes for the blinkers?

I have an '06 SG. She has about 100k miles on her and im freshening her up a bit. A fender cover is oen of the new parts. I would love to keep the tail light, and not sure about the blinkers.

I’ve done Bad Dad’s overlay in the past with the frenched in LED brake and tail light. Much better looking than doing a cut out for the stock light assembly. The next one was a full replacement fender. Very clean look. Both didn’t produce enough visible lights during the day or in the fog. I’ve since added the Plasma Rods.

i know this post is old but how did you get backseat attachment to work with wider overlay fender? My sissy bar isn’t quite wide enough to fit past the fender.
