Default Turncoat !!

Well fellers I'm off.

Thanks to this forum for the help, advice and information shared.

I'm afraid after my last trip through France where we had some bad weather, both my better half and I think our touring days are past. I can still force myself to do it but just not so much fun over the 50 year mark.

On the upside the king is for sale but have already set my mind to a new softail slim. We will still use it for trips abroad but will trailer it so we have the car also.

Best of luck to all.

Best of luck there Wild Bill. I remember an old qoute ... "Live for nothing or die for something" ... doesn't make a whole bunch of sense but neither does giving up touring. I wish all the happiness for you and your wife.

God Speed.

no need to give up on the king just to change your riding style , have noticed the same thing about long trips myself lately though , [ knocking on 60 ] have made some long distance trips in the past but have found lately that kicking back and riding for hours on the expressway , like Mich to Fla is boring and not much fun but still love my Ultra for day or weekend trips around the area , miles and hours in the saddle not the problem , ride solo about 80% of the time now days but would not trade my Ultra for any other bike , except a new one maybe , just to nice , think twice but good luck

A friend of mine is 65 and he just completed the US 4 corner ride (11,000 miles for him total) pulling a trailer with his Ultra. He's an animal. Anyway, I'd keep the road king all day long compared to the "little" Harleys. Either way, I'm knockin on 60 here and so far still have some desire to get out there. Good luck with the next phase.

Just because you have a touring bike does not mean you have to ride until you are exhausted or in bad weather. Is the king starting to feel to big and heavy for you, why do you want to downsize?

Good luck brother. I agree with some of the guys that the King might still serve your needs unless you don't think you can safely operate it, but its your ride, do what you want...and enjoy.

First, touring isn't for everyone. I know there's no way I could ride across the US like some do. I'm good if I do 300 miles in 9 hours, like yesterday. And that was with rest stops, shopping and eating. Will we go again today? It's supposed to rain. And I'm a little glad. I'm tired!

But I don't get the title..."Turncoat".

Just turned 60 and when I stop the 3 day tours I think I'll get a Road King because it's such a good all around motorcycle. ( Just ask the Police Depts around here.)

It's an excellent around the town bike IMO.

I'd like to put the suggestion in that you hang on to the RK and enjoy it on day trips. It's the perfect bike for doing that sort of thing and just getting outside in some fresh air, and just has a lot of class.

I hear you on the bad weather -- I was seriously thinking about a trailer myself on a trip home in thunderstorms for 4 hours.
