Love fuel injection!
Well, that's very encouraging news. It's been about 40 years since I've been on top of Pike's Peak(in a car). Lived in Colorado for 23 years before the wife and I pulled up stakes and headed for the land of Fruits and Nuts....California!

Actually Colorado would be a good place to try lower grade. Not saying you should do it but your octane requirements would be lower.
Last time I rode through some of the higher elevations in Colorado many stations had nothing higher than 87 octane. Used it and got better than usual mileage.
while living there, my big inch evo bobber with a carb would ride trail ridge rd without problems a few times a month. The carb ran best at 6000 feet, but was still running strong at 13k.
I did however, get vapor locked in one of the cars up there. Sat for about an hour before she'd restart
I've ridden from central Texas to Colorado several times and have done all the peaks in Colorado. I've never had a problem.
What you will likely experience is:
1. Loss of power. This is common as you go higher in altitude
2. Better gas mileage. I often get as much as 5-10 MPG better while at altitude
3. Possibly more pinging with if you accelerate hard
4. The availability of lower octane gas. As noted by someone else, you don't need as much octane at altitude.
