Default Starting/Starter Issues......

Starter/starting has been trying to tell me something the last week plus. Changed cams and pushrods and new battery a few months ago and has been running like a top...still does run great, but has been starting harder and harder every try. Hasn't left me stranded yet, but I think we're getting close. Just took this video of the sound.....anybody wanna share some thoughts on what the issue is? starter?

Thanks in advance guys!
Steve

Then that leaves compression issue out. Thats a good cam swap. That starter is grinding bad, I have been there too. Before you tear up clutch plates you might want to upgrade to a high output starter. Or a cheaper possible fix could be a set of extreme duty battery cables from sumax, 50 bucks. Stock batt cables are weak.

Have you had the battery load tested? If its an 09 and not knowing what its cycle life has been it could be getting to the end of its life. Maybe an all ***** starter drive or a new starter maybe.
Check your cables especially the grounds, make sure theres no corrosion anywhere

I would say look at your connections for corrosion, check for a voltage drop at the starter when cranking, otherwise I would start looking at the starter but that sounds wierd for a stock 09 with just cams. Some cames like the 255's have a high ramp up pressures when starting and will drag it down. Not sure about yours though. Again depending on cycle times your starter may be wearing out if everything else checks out.

Heavy duty battery cables, cheap, easy and will tell you if its a starter issue or not.

Mine did this to me last year in Sturgis. Ended up in Gillete Wyoming on the way home. getting repairs cuz it almost stranded me at a gas stop. Soon your Bendix will just spin and if your lucky it will catch and crank. Gotta love ESP.

When he says Bendix he means starter clutch. The screeching noise is what leads me to think he's right. The way the starter clutch works is there are ***** that roll up a ramp until they can't go any further causing it to lock. When they go bad the ***** no longer lock and start slipping which would cause a screeching noise. Go with the All ***** starter clutch, it will solve your problem.
