Default ABS Problem

Does anyone know of something that moisture could do to cause ABS problems? I was caught in a rainstorm the other day, and while riding, the ABS light came on and stayed steady. It's still staying on now that it's dry.

Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.

JL

PS -- my bike is an 08 Ultra.

Your brakes are a closed system, so doubt there is any trouble with the hydraulics. I would look more toward electrical.

The main culprit to check is the connection between your front wheel ABS sensor and the harness going back to the module. That connector has been known to give trouble before by either making intermittent or no connection for whatever reason. You might want to unplug it, examine it and make sure it's all dry and clean, then reconnect and see if there is any change in the way the ABS light is behaving.

It's the "front wheel speed sensor" connector. You can find it left-front up under the faring near the left leg.

Thanks, I'll check that. Is there an equivalent sensor for the rear wheel?

Would appear you may have some water in one of your sensors, the "control module" or the wiring. Check and see if you are throwing any codes that could point in the direction of where the water or problem may be.

For anyone who's interested, my ABS issue is fixed. It turned out to be a broken front sensor wire; the break was at the top of the forks where it made a right-angle bend. The service tech at HD Atlanta rerouted and extended the wire before splicing it, so I shouldn't have to worry about this happening again.

For the record, here are the DTC codes I was getting:

C1025
C1032
C1095
C1216
C0562

From the documentation I’ve found, the first two have to do with front wheel speed sensor; the next two are for front and rear brake switch open. The last one is low device voltage or something like that.

There was a thread awhile back regarding that sensor wire, wrapped mine w/clear fuel hose to keep it from getting pinched and broken.

Known problem happened on my 09 Road King with the connector by the steering neck, Harley in their wisdom ziptied it there causing stress on the wire. First thing I checked on my Limited was to make sure it wasn't ziptied.
