I have the Mustang Wide Touring on my King and very comfy. Recently picked up a Road Glide (05) with I believe stock seat and came with riders backrest. Much more versatile than the Mustang IMO and although have not taken a ride more than a hundred miles, vs 700 plus on the Mustang, I love the versatility.
I'm looking at putting a Mustang wide touring seat on my '03 Ultra.
Which backrest fits and works the best? I want something that is adjustable and sturdy enough to help when backing up the bike. It also needs to be easy to remove.
I know that there are other options, but these are the two I'm looking at.
Thanks
I have both. They are both sturdy, but the Mustang seems to fit my lower back the best.
I am very happy with my mustang seat and backrest.
Another in agreement. I've had a Mustang with driver back rest on my 2002 Fat Boy for probably close to 10 years. So far, I haven't felt the need for one on my 2014 Street Glide, but if I do someday I'll go with Mustang again.
Great info, guys, but it still leaves me with a question; between the HD and the Mustang RIDER backrests, which one would you say provides the most room and / or comfort for the PASSENGER behind it? I'm talking room (so thickness of the pad/bracket counts,) width and intrusion of parts into their space?
So, which is the least intrusive and the narrowest?
It's almost as hard to tell from the pics as it is from the lack of info on both websites.

Thanks!
That's where you need to look at the little CVO one by HD. Narrow side-to-side, smooth back for the passengers crotch area. Much less obtrusive.
The HD has a cover over the hardware in the rear that allows the backrest to fold forward, it seems the Mustang does not, but it is intrusive.
I got the Mustang, thanks! Works great, fits well, easy installation once I found where I put that stupid seat screw, and enough room for the wife. I might make a couple of brackets to set the tour pack back in inch or so anyway.
I have the HD drivers backrest with the cable..... it does NOTHING for my LOWER back.... I have it at its lowest setting and its still to high. I need it lower to push up against my lower back (had to lower back surgeries). I will be purchasing a Mustang wide tripper solo with backrest this week.
