Like someone else already said, Just about every other brand of motorcycle uses a shared sump, so the trans if lubed with motor oil, with no ill effects over 200K miles. Just think, all those GW go over 200K with 8K oil changes and a shared sump.
That is true, but they are designed and made to use the one oil, whereas our Harleys are designed and made for three.
Current big twins have the gear oil and engine oil in two separate compartments in the same casting. It would be very simple to make just one compartment for both - and yet......

Your wrong!!!! H-D calls for motor oil to be used. It's all the want-a-be engineers on the forums calling for other oil in the trans.

My buddy took his to dealer to get changed . they put Harley synthetic in all 3..
Im just not a fan of spending the money for HD oil.
The manual says to use HD thats bs. Thats about money.
I dont want this to turn into what oil is better because thats a bunch of crap also. I would Just like to put the same in all 3. Just checking to see what you guys are doing.
