pack your rain gear on top, never bury it under other stuff. pack a roll of toilet paper. just because truck stops have toilets doesn't mean they have toilet paper.

And sometimes the urge will hit in the middle of nowhere! I've done several 10-12 day trips. Two pair of jeans, 5 days of Ts and underwear. Do laundry about every 3rd or 4th day. Take a credit card just in case and take note of the other logical and good tips already posted. 300 to 400 mile days are about right in my opinion, unless you are headed home, then it is all you (usually the Misses) can stand to do seems like.

Plenty of good advise on packing. Minimize and plan on doing laundry is best. Also on tools, minimize there too, basic pliers, screwdriver combo, knife, elect tape, zip ties, from there a cell phone, credit card and ROAD AMERICA $29 upgrade is your friend. Just not much you can do to these bikes anymore on the road.

Things to do, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood, Devils Tower, and many more.. Just ride and take in the beauty where ever you ride. Its all amazing.

My son works in Afghanistan and travels from base to base. He taught me to put a days worth of clothes (tee shirt, underwear and socks) in a gallon zip-lock bag and squeeze out the air. I just got back from a 10 trip to New Orleans and it worked great! Just open one bag a day and put the dirty clothes back in it.

Wow can we get a walk through on how to do that? I would love to see a pic.

Sure, give me a little time to snap some pics and get them posted. I have not unpacked from the trip yet.

Definitely a good rule. We took way too many clothes on our first trips to SD.

There is a small town called 'Lead' just West of Sturgis, there are some nice cabins in the woods available for little cost. Privacy and a hot tub is nice after a day of riding.
