Has anyone dealt with Baker and their warranty policy?

Tell us more...

What type of issues are you having? I'm running a Baker DD6. I had a small issue that turned into a huge argument to get the parts I needed. They did me right in the end so no use in bitchin abut havin to bitch to begin with, I guess.

So, what's your issue?

I had a problem on my 04 RK with 3rd gear slipping yesterday.Tore it down, shifter forks were marred up.I talked to Baker this morning about the issue. He said they just don't mar themselves up.He gave me suggestions on what to check and found out that the shifter fork rod was bent.Found out that the play for that rod was not enough per Baker specs and that it need to be at least 1/8'' play from the side door cover.I wanted them to send me 3 new forks and a rod to replace the damaged one. This, after we determined the cause together. They wanted me to send them my whole transmission so they could check it (preferably) or send them the DD6 gear set and they would put it it their case to determine the problem.Mind you this is only 2 yrs old.Since I didn't want to yank it all out and miss Sturgis,I had to (fork) $160 + SH for parts. I understand they don't want to keep throwing parts at transmission that has other serious issues, but I think we determined the cause of the failure.Just my opinion. Update.More damage than I could see.Sending it in.

If I could just give you the parts I would and once upon a time we did but people self diagnose the problem, diagnose it wrong and destroy the new parts we just sent them. In your case I believe it may be just the bent fork rod that caused your problem but if that fork rod was installed that way and the bike has been ridden for 2 years what toll did that take on the fork grooves. When the fork rod is bent it interrupts the travel of the forks therefore not allowing the dog teeth to fully engage. When the dog teeth do not fully engage they will eventually round off and not lock in at all. Can your naked eye tell the difference between a new dog tooth and a worn dog tooth? How many dog teeth have you examined in your life? I've seen thousands. What if you look at the gears and say "their good" but you don't see the hairline crack in a dog groove and just throw new forks at it. Then the new forks put pressure on a different part of the dog groove then the the old bent fork did and "SNAP" it breaks then a chunk of gear gets between the engaged drive gears while your doing 70 mph down the highway and locks up the transmission solid. Are you willing to bet your life on your expertise of a good or bad gear? We have this policy in place for a reason, we want to be sure.

Great explanation!

After looking it over carefully, the dog teeth are rounded and do need to be brought back up to spec.I do believe in safety and I won't cut corners.I either do it the right way or not at all.I've taking the bike apart so many times,I could do it blind folded.I do have to say. Baker got me back on the road last year at Daytona. Thanks
