That's what I am thinking. If I shut the bike down in gear while stopped, I have a similar noise as well. It's not loud, and like you said, much more noticeable in a garage. However, I don't get the noise if I shut it down in neutral.

this is the first twin cam i've owed and it sounds like my old panhead. i'm just not used to all the noise this thing makes yet. kinda like a blender with ice in it.

If it's clackclack, then it sounds like "Unintentional Mechanical Contact"

If it's tinkitytink, then it's just the motor cooling.

If it's twangitytwang, then you're in a C&W band.

Other than being a little noisy from time to time I don't think a noisy compensator really tears up anything. I can't remember if they started putting in the SE compensators in the 2010 or 2011 model year. They were engineered a little differently and were certainly made out of heavier stuff. My compensator started making a noise when I turned the engine off after about 50k miles on the odometer. I just lived with it for a year and while it continued to make the noise at shutdown, it never hurt anything. I don't remember anybody commenting on it. I eventually replaced it. The noise went away. When I pulled the old one out I inspected it really good and did not find any catastrophic damage anywhere. A few marks where the metal had been wearing, but nothing looked like it was going to fail. I am quite sure someone will chime in here and declare that their compensator caused the motor, clutch, transmission, shocks and wheels to grenade, but for me that wasn't a concern.
