I get clack clack almost every time I shut the motor off no matter if it's in gear, in neutral, in the garage or in the great outdoors. Sometimes if the bike didn't get run very far and didn't get really hot I don't hear it but that's rare. I think it's the compensator.

A year (15k) ago I had the same issue. I had changed the primary oil and found some rather large pieces of metal on the drain plug magnet. Before this the "fuzz" on the magnet was very small pieces so I brought the pieces I had found to the dealer. They said nothing to worry about.

Within a week the clack clack showed up so I brought it back and they wound up replacing the bad SE comp with another SE comp. So I'm thinking it's time to replace it again. I think I got about 25k out of the first SE comp.

After they replaced the comp the bike ran like new. It was smooth and no noises. When I shut the motor down it just stopped-no extra noises-no clack clack.

Seems like they could be beefed up a little bit or redesigned. Assuming of course, that it's a bad comp which I truely believe it is.

My 11, first year of the SE comp being stock, is starting to make this noise to at 21000 miles. Hot and in or out of neutral. Sounds a bit louder in the garage then out side but it's there. This Winter I think I'll have my Indy install a new one. I don't feel this is a big deal, as long as I'm right that it's the comp.

Ya, I could not see any difference after I did that. I put it in upside down at first before I realized it. Maybe if I had used a 20/50 weight synthetic oil I would get better results. What is the best oil?

Harley is moving the way of (the old) Jeep now, and buying parts and using them from any manufacturer?
Time to go back to Honda if thats the case for the only thing I dislike more than Yamaha, is Mopar.
