I searched high and low and am still empty handed. I am trying to find out how long the cables need to be when installing 12" bars on my 06 Street Glide. I would imagine a +4 would do it but I don't even know what the stock length is.
I've seen people ask before and get a a cut and paste reply with part numbers, clutch adjuster location lengths, etc. where does one find this info?
I used Magnum Shielding for all my cables/lines when I put 12" fat apes on my 2000 EG. If you go to their website and put in your bike info, it'll give you the stock lengths and other length choices/finishes.
When I did mine I spliced a foot and a half staggered in the middle of the bundle, meaning I bought a roll of wire and made my cut between one end and the other allowing for other splicing not to lay on top the other.. What I didn't need I carefully tucked away behind the Nachelle. For the clutch I added +8 and for the brake line I added +6....this is for a 14" 1 1/4" bar. I hope that made sense.
Ok, I think I got it figured out, thanks. Next question... I am getting 12" bars now so will probably need a +4 or +6. However, I might go to 14's later. If I put +8's on right now will they still work fine on a 12 inch bar? Thanks.
I'd sort out the correct bar height before going to all that time and expense. I spent $380 on cables alone with shipping. There's a You Tube video on measuring for the needed bar height, but closing your eyes while sitting on the bike and reaching out to where your hands are comfortable helped me. I had a helper measure to the clamp area while I did that and 12" worked for me. There has been much discussion here about guys wishing they would have gone bigger/higher on the bars, but the 12's worked fine for me and I pulled them back an inch or so after the install and a few hundred miles to keep me from reaching forward.
I´ll put a wild one´s 16" on my 2006 road king classic, and in some place I read that I need +8" cables. Please is this correct for all cables? I´m reading some times diferent length for clutch, idle-throttle and brake line. thanks a lot
I've got +8 on my clutch with 14's and its a bit long, so for 16's it should be perfect. I went +6 on the brake line and it also was a bit long so I would prob go +6 instead of 8 even with 16's. There's room in the Nachelle to tuck some of the slack but you can only curl brake line so much before your just too long.....does this make sense, I know it was confusing for me when I was putting my parts list together?
