$204 HD Hand Grips

BTW, I'm doing grips in the next week or two, now one more thing for me to keep my eyes open for
Thanks or the heads up.
That just sounds like the Harley way of doing business......f*ck the customer as much as you can!
How did this donkey justify the $154?
Nothing like helping a brother in need.
Ya think $75 would have been sufficient? They had to teach you a lesson!!!!
Forget customer service relations......it's all about the mighty dollar!

I just put those same grips on my Ultra this past week. While I was doing it, and knowing I would have the switch housings split, also decided to do the chrome switch caps and hardware.
So me, some parts, my manual,my tools, and my Ultra all met in the garage.(Ended up sending wife out for beer and pizza)
The battle was on!!!!
After the FIRST DAY, I had the throttle grip and all button caps changed out. My fingertips where nicked and chiped, andI was pleased and frustratedwith the work.
Now the SECOND DAY,I had a "better plan". I would get the clutch side done with "none of yesterdays learning experiances".

Well needless to say, everything did go much smoother, but I still took that little screw holding the left turn signal swith out five timesto replace the zip tie, and reposition the wire harness, to get it "right" when putting the housing back together.
And all I did was replace switch caps!!!! I wouldn't want to even think what fun splicing wires and postioning splices inside that space would be like.
Once you cut that zip tie inside the switch housing, the fun begins....
But the grips and switches look great, now they are done.
You need to find friends to help you out...
It took me about an hour to do chrome switch housings/buttons & grips on my dads Ultra.
I spent about 2 hours on my Road King - did the same as above, but also did levers, throttle & idle cables& rebuilt the master cylinder...
PMme if you are going to get into something like that - I can just about walk u thru it over the phone.
The pinched wires was a common problem and very easy to predict. The solution involved loosening 4 screws on each side and soldering the wires back together. How long would that take a technician that does this for a living? Maybe an hour and a half (what they charged me) and that isif they took an hour lunch break and also a 15 minute coffee break on my tab.
Would I do it again...sure...I enjoyed it and learned a lot by doing it. I needed the bike back on Friday (as it is my only transportation) and that is why I had the dealer repair it (knew they could get it in and out the same day).
Anyway, hope someone else will learn from my mistake. Also, I am biting my tongue and refuse to say anything bad about this dealer. My granddaddy always used to tell me "if you don't have anything nice to say...don't say it".
Peace,
Thanks for all the help and offers...great group of folks here.

Peace,
There are lotsa guys who would not even have tried it the first time.
Not that it matters, but I have a lot of respect for anyone who does (or at least tries) their own work. There seem to be a lot of guys out there that only know how to put gas in 'em...and depend on the dealer to do everything else. Nothing against them, but I think that they are missing-out on one of the best parts of being a motorcycle owner.
There is a whole different satisfaction that comes from pulling your bike out of your garage after doing something yourself - and writing a check for someone else to do it.
Good luck on future upgrades...and, like I posted earlier, shoot me a PM if you have any questions. I won't guarantee I can help...but I'll try.
later.
