Guy at the dealer said it's supposed to represent intake temp. But being in TX, mine's maxxxed out at all times, so wasted spot. I thoght about the oil temp too as a replacement, but I figured if I still have pressure, it's good enough to keep going.

or do like I did and mount it in the door of your beer box. :-) seems pretty accurate there..

do like the cvo bikes. ditch the gauge, and one of the other ones, for a set of tweeters. in the cvo case its the fuel gauge, they moved that to led on the tank.

The only thing I use an outside temp gauge on any of my vehicles for is to determine when the outside air temp is approaching freezing to get off the roads before the bridges freeze. I would not trust the one on my Limited to do so.

As far as I know all of the gauges on my Limited are inaccurate. On an 82 degree ambient day the outside temp gauge indicates 92. The engine temperature gauge is accurate but it has no meaningful labels on the graduations (so it only indicates relative temperature), the volt meter indicates almost 19 volts when fully charged. I've checked the battery with a Fluke meter and it's 13.6. The fuel gauge indicates full when full and empty when empty. Other than that who knows. I have no idea how much fuel is really in the tank when it first indicates empty. I haven't checked the speedometer and the tach but suspect that they are off to some extent. Most are.

Bottom line is that the gauges are most valuable in indicating relative measurements. They can't be relied upon to provide accurate readings. The outside temp gauge is the worst and most useless of the lot though.

Use your smart phone....or go into the nearest Walgreens/Ekards drugstore and buy a decent thermometer.....even one of those ones that stick on a refrigerator is better than the Harley one.

Does anyone know of a analog clock that fits where the air temp gauge is?
Thanks,
Steve

That is a finely tuned well crafted very, very accurate ambient air temperature reader. The hours of research and knowledge that went into....
I tried to say it without laughing.
It's a POS

I am going to offer my experience. Had the oil temp gage installed on my 2010. Then I bought an oil cooler. I could have skipped the expense of the oil temp and just started with the oil cooler. The oil temp is really of little value. The engine will shut down if it gets to hot(limp mode). And my oil temp gage has a reliability problem.
