Default Did the race walk?

Can anyone tell by looking at the picture if this race moved and if I will be able to get the removal tool behind it. Also, can I re use the race or should I just get a new one? I saw the s&s "non walking" race needs to be retrofitted?

I hate buying another one time use tool again, but still cheaper doing it myself!

Try a feeler gauge...

I believe you have to have 0.10" to get the tool behind the race. As for reusing it, have you thought about the high torque sealed bearing instead? I think they are available from Baker Drivetrain, Jims, and I believe there is also one offered now by HD ScreaminEagle. No separate race to fool with. After pressing it into the inner primary, it just slides over the main shaft. I've got over 20,000 miles on the one I installed when I went to the Baker DD6 gearset with no problems as yet. I removed the original inner race with my dremel, (being very careful not to scar the main shaft). Saved a few bucks by not using the removal/install tool...

Can't tell for sure if the race has walked but it does't look like it has. The puller should bit without any problem.

You failed to mention what model year. If the bike is stock, replacing the OEM IPB and race with the Baker or All ***** "raceless" bearings will be a time saver. No need to buy the race R/R tool; just cut a diagonal notch in the race about 3/4 of the depth of the race with a Dremel tool. Insert a chisel into the notch and strike it with a hammer; the race is very brittele and it will split and you can pull it off with your hand.

If the motor has been modified and is making more than 100HP, the S&S IPB race is probably the better option than the "raceless" bearings. The S&S race is not available for the '07 and up models, at least it wasn't the last time I checked.

Some have reported some success with the OEM race using red Loctite to keep it from walking. According to George of George's Gagage, the factory has started using red Loctite when installing the IPB race.

Thanks guys, it's the 05 in my pic. I borrowed a puller from a Indy. There was plenty of space for it. I was look at the Baker or Jim's to replace the race and bearing. I took the lock plate off and the sprocket nut was loose. I will have all of the seals tomorrow and am going to refinish the silver on the primary case and polish the polished aluminum so it shines like chrome.

Baker or All *****; pass on the Jims. Make sure you get all the seals; list follows but PNs are from my '02 Touring parts manual and may have been superseded in '05. Parts are cheap, might as well replace them all. Make sure you drain the tranny before you pull the main shaft seal/drive gear seal (the big one behind the pulley)

11165 quad ring
12067B oil seal main shaft
33344-94 spacer
12045 shifter shaft seal, although here is a better one:

12035B oil seal main shaft 5th gear
12052 main shaft seal in primary
12066A jackshaft seal in primary
11147B o-ring mates primary to left engine case.
