road glide windshields
Does anybody have problems with the screws coming loose on the windshield on road glides? If so what is the secret to keeping them in and not havng the windshield flap all over the place?
they don't have to be uber tight, but they do need to be 'tight enough'.
been riding a roadglide for over 3 years. never had a problem with my windshield. you could also try a more stout wellnut.

The design does suck. I change up between a shorty windshield in the summer and a 16" for winter riding. I have to keep several extra rubber nuts to replace the ones I push through. I recently put in boom audio speakers and when I opened my faring there was a handful of them that had been pushed into the holes. Poor design!
Stock wellnuts are not great but will work. Replacements are available from Cee Bailey or a lot of times the ones at Lowes - HD or the hardware store are better and have a thicker shoulder.
There is no reason to loose a well nut (push into the fairing)never completely remove the screw from the well nut when removing the shield. loosen it up until no pressure on the shield and then remove the shield with the well nuts attached, it will pop off. When installing you can do the same, loosely thread onto the screws and shield and then push the shield and well nuts into place.
When you tighten them, make sure that you are pushing the shield up against the wellnut as you tighten, usually 3 -5 turns at most past making contact works for me. Ive got it down to where I use a electric screw gun / drill and set the tq adjustment at its lightest and Ive found on my bike it works perfectly to push on the shield and use the drill/screwgun to tighten until it disengages (slips)
