How late in year for Dragon?

How late in year for Dragon?
Anyone been to Dragon/Cherohala in October? Is it cold? Is there a time when traffic sucks because of fall foliage? For riders like me that hate cold (less than 60), when's too late?

I did the Cherohala and the Dragon in late September last year. It is down in the low 50's at night and up to about 75 during the day. Was there over the weekend and it was not too crowded. The leaves falling can cause a slight problem with traction so be careful.

Third week in Oct. is the best color week. Expect high 30's early and low 60's later in the day. Watch for leaves and pine needles in the curves, slick, slick. Have seen snow in the higher elevations but not too much.

If you go in October.....bring warm clothes. To give you an idea, the days if sun is shining are nice but cool. Evenings are quite chilly. Mornings are cold. Last time I was there, 3rd weekend in September last year...when we headed for home....it was 38. It's good time to go, but you will need cold & wet weather gear. We are headed back up in two weeks for Labor Day Weekend. Will update what weather we experienced.

I was there last October, late in the month. It was 28-32 in the mornings, and struggled to reach 50 during the day. Snow only at the highest elevations. We had plenty of warm clothes, but yes, it was chilly. We missed the fall foliage, (no big deal) but spent a week riding some great roads!
