Stop reading if you don't like oil threads then! Now back to the OPs question; I discovered the same thing with amsoil to inc foaming and used it in all my vehicles at one time which is why I stopped using it. Not to mention it has to be shipped and pretty damn expensive.. The dino oil is thicker and will quiet things down for awhile from my experience. Keep in mind you have almost a qt of dirty oil in the sump when you change oil so unless you get it out of there it will dirty your oil in short order.
if your concerned about any metal in the oil, go to drainplugmagnets.com their magnets on the drain plug will pick up a 11/16" wrench.i checked it out when i go mine. the OEM are trash.
i also use PFE paste on the plug threads.
My friend's, gardener's, brother's, cousin works for an oil company in research and development. He says that dino oil is superior to synthetic oil in all aspects, but the oil companies are hiding all the data so they can make more money on the synthetic oils!!
It seems that syn oil is usually thinner by grade. The times I tried syn oil in vehicles with an oil pressure gauge I always got lower oil pressure than with dino oil.I'm not a believer in the syn oils, and I sure don't think a Harley needs any lower oil pressure.Tried syn oil in my new dodge truck and the motor clattered like a diesel. If an oil makes an engine noisier I don't see how it can be good for an engine.
I run the straight Amsoil 60W in the summer once the temps get above 80. Great stuff. I go back to 20w50 in the cooler months.
Don't know what the OP's bikes problems may be, but I have no oil consumption and nothing out of the breather. So don't blame your bike's problems on your oil.
Amsoil will get darker quicker. Why? Because the detergent in it's formulation is doing it's job of cleaning, in addition to lubrication. Then factor in it's ability to do it's job in these high temp engines long after dino oil has broken down into a molecular slurry.
Clean oil after 1500 miles is certainly nothing to brag about. I would concerned that the manufacturer has skimped on quality additives if my oil looked new at 1500 miles.
