When I bought my '12 Ultra, it already had an HD removable Tour Pak set up. I liked that; the versatility appealed to me.
But the first time I pulled it off in order to get acquainted, I found it not-so-easy to re-install.
So, having pulled it off, substituting a backrest, aka Ultra Street Glide, I was hesitant to re-install it, afraid of scraping the heck out of back fender, chrome, etc., like I'd almost done the first time.
Well, slow learner that I am, I finally figured out that one holds the Tour Pak with the leading edge down and top facing the front of the bike. Now you will see where the front mounting points go. Just rotate the back of the Tour Pak down, secure the latches, and you're all set.
Thought maybe this would help someone trying to get the dang thing back on the bike, or wondering if the expense was worth it. Now, it literally takes five or six minutes to swap it out.
i also found putting the ultra seat back on when reattaching the pak gives you a little margin for error. i have to take seat right back off after reattachment to hook up the deutsch plugs, but the minute extra is worth it
I've had the same problem and scratched my rear fender. Now I put rags all around, and I lay the front of the tour-pak on the rear seat, then slowly rotate it into position so the front fingers line up
