Hi all,
I have an '08 Ultra and have noticed since I have owned this bike, there has been oil on the right hand side of the crank case as one sits on the bike after riding, usually on the interstate. I originally changed the oil sending unit, thinking this was the problem but didn't solve the issue. Not sure how much oil this is and doesn't seem like much, but still aggravating. I have never seen any pool under the bike and really never have to add any between oil changes. Seems as if it may be a few drops that get sprayed due to the wind and probably looks worse than it really is, but would like to remedy the issue. Any help troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.
Could it just be oil that spilled when removing the oil filter during an oil change? That happens a lot.
Some of the older bikes also had a problem with the routing of the stator wires coming from the primary case. The wires ran around the front of the frame, and back a ways to the connector. Then back forward to the regulator. Then back to the main harness under the seat. The casing around the wire, where it comes from the stator, would allow oil to pass through and down to the connector, where it would then leak out of the casing to the frame or ground. Not sure if the '07 had this issue though. MoCo's fix for this was to reroute the wires from the stator up the left front frame tube, across to the right front frame tube and then down. This 'fix' utilized gravity to keep the oil from traveling along the inside of the wire casing.
I have a 08 also and it does the same thing . Just got it back from the dealer for the second time . We will see if they got it fixed . Just enough oil to make a mess .
Although u believe the leak is on the right side of the engine u might be mistaken and the leak could be coming from the rubber bung for the stator leads. The stator leads exit very low down on the left side. I have a theory that riding in excessive heat destroys the seal. Unfortunately the fix is to change the stator. ($300 incl gaskets, etc)
