Default Outer fairing install

I removed the outer fairing to check out my cigarette lighter. After reinstalling the outer fairing exactly as the service manual says. My question is, is the inner fairing suppose to go completely inside of the outer fairing lip, or just butt up in places. I don't know if I explained this very well, so I hope you understand my question. I tried top attach a couple of pictures maybe someone can tell if this the way it's suppose to go back together.
Thanks Jonnierock

Had the same question with mine when I put my Hogtunes in. I managed to squeeze it inside but it was a PIA. Took some pushing and holding while I screwed it together. I was worried about it until I looked at some new models on the showroom floor. Some are inside and others butt up against in places. Either way it's not a precise fit.

My inner is slightly on the inside of the outer. No way could it butt up even.

I too am interested in this. I would think this is correct:

Not this:

If I loosen the bolts up is it possible to get the the inner fairing completely inside the outer as pictured in the first photo?

Yes you should be able too..That's mine in the first pic and I had to work at it a bit but got it inside. Loosen it up then get it set and hold it in place as you tighten the screws back down. Don't do one screw at a time, try to tighten them evenly.

Mine is sitting just like your first picture. I dont think its supposed to be pushed on and over lap like you and the other person that posted pictures.

Could some of you that haven't had their fairing off, post a few pictures so we could see how it comes from the factory, I for the life of me, didn't pay enough attention to be able to tell what it looked like before I started, never thought it would come up.
Thanks Jonnierock
