The inner does not go inside the outer. Look at both sides and when you are drawing up the lower screws you can shift the outer a little bit to make both sides even. They sort of butt up, but do fit under slightly. If you take your inner and have it painted, sometimes it doesn't always fit back on quite the same. All fairings I have seen, you see most all of the rubber strip visible.

Great now I am completely confused. Pretty typical for me though...........

Hopefully additional pictures from other riders will help. I always wondered how it could be water free if they do not mate securely?

Maybe go by the stealer take some pic's then go home & do some adjusting.
