No stock cat or non-cat header will out perform a stepped header true dual performance system. Period. (One look at that smashed cross-under pipe back there and you'll be asking yourself how much power is that thing holding back?)
That said, there are advantages to having a cross-over, which is evident in the power of the Dyna line - it flows far better than the touring exhaust.
JMO, but I think H-D should just build a good 2-1 for the Touring bikes and be done with it.
There's a lot of mis-information that's been floating around on these message boards for years regarding true dual vs. 2 into 1 or 2-1-2 headers. I would suggest you talk to a tuner who knows what they're talking about.
Your best bet? Call Docs Performance Tuning down in Minneola, FL.
The old true duals make less power/torque argument is BS. A properly tuned true dual system will make just as much power as any 2-1-2 setup.
Oh... and stay away from Vance and Hines headers!

Well some of us are listening, what true dual you recommending?
Yeah stay away from the California based company with American workers and there hands on approach to custom pipes. I will stay supporting my USA made pipes ...Thank you very much.
Has to do with their placement of the O2 sensors. They're not where the should be and don't tune worth a damn because of it. They've been told about it and don't seem to care from what I've been told.
Vance and Hines was sold years ago to a company called Motorsport Aftermarket Group. As the old saying goes, they ain't what they used to be.
Btw... There's plenty of other American companies that make damn good headers- such as Rush and Fullsac
I don't think there was anyone saying they were the only US made company for headers. The title was : True Duals vs. 2-1-2
Nothing about Rush And Fullsac.
It is ok that you dislike V&H you're entitled to your opinion sir.
Motorsport Aftermarket Group which is based in Irvine, Calif, they also own White Brothers,J&P Cycles,Performance Machine Inc,Progressive Suspension,Vance & Hines,Mustang Motorcycle Seats,Renthal. All highly profitable businesses that one guy decided to be a part of and be a finance guru in the background.
Kinda of looks like they are in the business of making money ..hmm (they did build it) and bought several businesses actually. All the products are good sellers and popular.
This kinda of gives you an idea of who they are and how they came to be.
Lots of folks like the sound and/or look of true duals but a good 2-1-2 will outperform a good true dual set-up on a bagger. Hell a stock non-cat '09 header will outperform a good true dual set-up on a bagger.
Sorry, I call BS to this statement. There is no way a Stock Headpipe with CAT removed will out perform a True Dual system.
