Default How Much Commission do HD Sales Reps Make?

I just purchased by 3rd new bike from the same dealer and sales rep over the past 5 years and have always wondered how much my "loyalty" is helping out the sales rep, etc. Are the HD Sales reps just on commission only or are they on both (hourly/salary plus commission) and if so how much do they make? I've always been curious....

Got to be friends with our salesman here in a iowa. They make a base salary, which isn't much, then commission on each bike. He wouldn't say specifically how much.

He did say that before the "recession" he made $70k per year. When things were slow the dealer "restructured" the commission program. He made $35k that year and sold the same number of bikes. He quit........

I've heard of both....I know one local dealer that does commission and another that's all salary. Different business models, different ideas on how to compensate salespersons.

One place here close to Memphis pays minimum wage, than 300 bucks per bike sold.than they take out what they pay them in minimum wage.so if you go a couple of weeks without a sale you dont get nothing until you sale more bike than you draw at minimum wage.they change salesman like you change underwear

I'm guessing our local dealer is a base salary. These guys are very laid back and not pushy at all.

i would think that many are on a draw against commission. sliding commission rate based on how much money the dealer makes on the bike.

smaller stores (that sell less then 100 bikes) do mostly a salary with a little spiff. The bigger shops kinda do the opposite,,,,,,,, I know of one guy at an 750 bike shop that brings in around 100k but I think he is an exception I would guess.

Around here it's commission with a draw and the sales people get different percentages depending on if its a base bike, loaded up, preowned, etc.

A lot of places have different structures. Some pay you a flat X amount per bike and then give you more depending on how many you sell. Like sell 1-9 bikes per month get $75 a bike. Sell 10-19 per month get $150 per bike. Some places make you work on a draw and have you pay it back when you miss. Others give you a base salary plus whatever you earn greater than your base in commission. I feel like it could be a fairly lucrative job if you are at a busy dealership. I just wouldn't want to be working weekends and putting up with tons and tons of tire kickers.
