Default Which Cam?

Me and a buddy are going to upgrade his 2001 Classic to the 07 hydro Cam tensioner set up. He wants to change to a different cam with a little more grunt that is good for touring (low /Mid range)- and a little umph to pass when ya need it.

Stage 1 stock 88 motor - efi with pc111 (72,000 miles)

what do you have and how does it perform?

respect
UD

Kuryakyn TC-1 I putthat cam in my 88 and it ran great. Power everywhere. Pumped it up to 1550 with SE Hi-Perf heads and forged pistons, got tight and left that cam in. Mike Roland said the TC-2 would run better with raised compression and bore. I didn't listen and I am glad. That thing had power from idle and would stretch it's legs on the highway.

For an otherwise sstock engine, an Andrews 26H or Head-Quaters HQ-500 would be a good choice.

If you want a Harley product, the 203 cams are a good choice for low-midrange grunt. 204 cams move it up to midrange-higher rpms.

Did the Andrews 26G here - then went and did the 95" Big Bore kit. I wanted to change to a gear drive cam plus wanted a bit more low end torque - very happy with the results. I did no head work since most of my touring is in the 2-3K RPM range and the 2005 heads are actually pretty good as they are.

With no headwork I'd choose the Andrews 21G, or the 26G (if you ever plan on going big bore).

26G's for me. It pulls like a freight train.

Why swap to the '07 Hydro tensioner set up that doesn't have a proven track record, when you can do a gear swap for the same money?
