Ram X-Mount. Not the prettiest, especially when empty but it is IMHO by far the most functional mount out there and I've tried many of them. This is rock solid on the handlebars, no movement even when the bike is in vibratory mode (idle). Also will hold a variety of devices and has infinite adjustability.
There are numerous ways and styles, but they all work.
On my OL's old Deluxe, I ran wires to the battery and added a fuse and a 12v charger in her windshield bag. Her phone, or GPS, or iPod would plug right in.
I've bought a couple mounts from him and so have a few buddies once they saw mine.
I'm currently using one of his mounts for a RAM X-grip. (I really like this set up)
Yet another ram mount user. They're ugly as sin, but they work better than anything else I've tried. They never shake loose, they don't move, and they hold the widget securely. About the worse I can say use wise is the longer arms allow vibration, making it hard to see the widget, or to tap buttons.
Dunno about the BEST but am going to mount a Garmin 3597 on a Leader e-caddy. The 3597 uses a Mag-mount interface between the unit and the backmount plate, hopefully it won't fall off...
If you're like me, you might not like the looks of the RAM mount. I prefer a classic look, also solid materials like stainless steel and chrome (there's also a black anodize finish). Options to mount to brake or clutch, on the bar, even to the windshield. http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/gpsguide.html
