Jim @ CycleDyne did my forks today...i never have and aint got the tools so he got the call..plus he's a big motorhead and we both enjoyed a good visit....we brainstormed abit and ended up mixin half an half, 10wt/15wt ....man did it ever smooth out the front end...after 8k miles i was surprised at how dark the fluid(10wt) was...it used to bottom out...not now...real smooth....i'd recommend from experience mixing your fork oil to half 10wt / half 15wt, it should net you a 12.5wt
WHen I changed my fork lowers out for the chrome lowers I switched to 15wt fork oil(Motul). I love it, the ride isn't harsh at all, and it seems to stiffen the front end "just" the right amount. I have mixed different weight fork oils for my racebikes in the past and it is amazing how such an easy task can affect ride quality.
I just wonder when the front end comes down, from almost vertical, bags draggin wheelie....will it bottom out then? I did not wheelie Bryan's scoot, but damn I sure that about it, but I kept thinking if I were to lay this thing down, he would really really be pissed, and not to mention all the parts I would have to replace, but the thought did cross my mind.
yes the seals broke bc of me....i yanked it up goin into second with the 3.37 gears before the Baker...it came up like a dirt bike...all i could think of was "$hit [:-], i'm fixin to drag the SG rear facia off"....hit the rear brake and closed the throttle...slammo...leaked ever since....thought i'd just blame Bart tho so's momma would feel sorry for me and gimme some more $$$

I was just funnin. That thing is a beast. It scares the chit out of Ya when He bust it off.
Did the chrome front end on my SG last summer. Was not a bad swap at all. The only tool I needed was a longer alen wrench. I was not able to get the shock tube out..ended up stripping the torx. Had to take a hack saw and cut the old shock tower in half to put vice grips on that sucker. Turned a 6pack job into a 12pack
According to my service manuel it says that fork oil doesn't need to be changed until 50k miles so out of curiosity why would you need to do it a 8k???
In all of you guys experience do you think it should be changed earlier?? I have an 05 RG with 22k on it and am doing a cross country ride this spring and would like to have it done prior to leaving if it really should be done sooner than 50k.
