Default Kickstand down

I have a 2013 Road King. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that with the kickstand down, if I put the bike into gear, the motor would stall. Tonight I almost left the gas station with the kickstand down. I caught it just as I started moving. To test it, when I got home, with the bike in gear, I put the kickstand down and it kept running. Is this how it is supposed to be or should the bike stall?

To the best of my knowledge, only bikes made for international sales have that switch ...bikes descend for the USA don't have it...though I have heard newer police bikes have it...unless they changed in the last couple of years.

Thanks for the replies. I've had several Harleys but in the few years before I bought this one I had a few Triumphs that had the feature. I guess I was used to the feature and assumed the RK had it too.

They don't have that switch , but the way Harley jiffy stands lock when you put weight on them if you forget to put it up I think it will go up on its own if you hit something , maybe that is why they are designed that way

My BMW has a kicktand engine kill switch when you put it in gear.
In any event, kickstands on Harley Davidsons are called jiffy stands.

I've never heard of any bikes having that. Frankly it reminds me too much of the safety switch on the lawn mower seat.

My triumph thunderbird and rocket III both had it, as did a BMW that I owned several years ago.

I have a Honda Fury and with the kick stand down the bike shuts down. Cant start the bike even holding in the clutch. I'd rather have it like that IMO.
