The CHP doesn't buy anything without extensive testing. Now I have no personal knowledge of the specific testing that was done here, but their history is pretty transparent.....they don't have any "sacred cows"; they buy what they feel meets their specs. It is NOT all about the money. Case in point....the Interceptor SUV they are buying was not the low bid they received.

According to the current "CHiPs" BMW RT-P bike mileage over 20% are over 100,000 miles and the cost to maintain goes up. The Harley's warranty is up to three years @60,000 miles but the cost per unit is actually higher than the BMWs.
Local SDPD and LASD are still mostly RT-Ps and SoCal CHPs are also still riding RT-Ps...

I'm surprised that the police edition isn't offered in the new Twin Cooled model. I'm also surprised that there is a Sportster version as well!
