To you maybe, I understand your theory. I just got mine in today and am just waiting for the bike.
For now, I just dont want the tin can sound and that is all I will be using. It is a lot of money just for sound but to me it is worth it.
In time, I will most likely add a header (V&H tru duals) and a breather, but then again, maybe not.
You won't have tin can sound at all. It'll sound like a factory muffled 4 wheeler and a low rumble. To get a good sound sound take the cat out and tune it. Check my signature. I had tuner and air cleaner and still sounded weak. Decatted and now all is right with the world! Great sound.
( '05 Train ) I've spent lots of dollars over the years to achieve the performance, efficiency and whatever you mean when you say smoothness. As for the performance, I am satisfied with my stock bike, efficiency, I still get the same mpg as I had before installing the Slip On's. The sound of the slip On's are fine for my long distant trips, I have no ringing in my ears each night after 15 days on the road. As for performance, coming across MT I had my Glide up to 105 mph and still had plenty of throttle and power left. If you are just putting around the block, want to make a lot of noise and could care less about mpg then proceed with spending lots of dollars for a minimal increase in all of the above.

I installed the Rineharts yesterday and went for a long ride today. My SG runs great. No sputter or backfire at all. I love the low growly Rinehart sound -pretty loud when you want it, but quiet enough to hear my tunes. All is well.
