You will need to put it back on and secure it better.

I found my loose cap after looking around because, the bike idled like crap, would sputter and die.

Yes i agree....hmmmmmmmm

Everyday i learn something new on this forum...Wether i want to learn it or not!!
That, plus using Harbor Freight rubber vacuum cap. I think the Chinese use a different type of rubber to make them, maybe?

Based on my extensive motorcycle mechanical knowledge I believe that is a thing-a-ma-jig cap that goes on the doomaflatchy. Now some might say is a thing-a-ma-bob but I am certain it is a thing-a-ma-jig. If your thing-a-ma-jig is off of your doomaflathcy, there will definitely be a difference in the ride. With it on you can meander and possibly even mozy. With it off you will likely run amuck.

To keep it from blowing off again, use a small plastic zip tie to secure it.
