Default Brake lights on continuously

Good day, Riders.

Looked for my previous post but can't seem to find it.

I ride a 2006 FLHTCUSE and it has developed this problem of the brake lights being on constantly.

Responses on the previous post suggested that the brake lever stop switch was the failing culprit. Unfortunately for me; that switch is putting out the right electrical conditions.

I've separated the connector under the seat that connects the front wiring harness to the back and the lights go out. So a short on the rear of the bike is ruled out.

Brake fluid reservoirs are full.

Any assistance, advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Let's go back to the front brake switch.
Did you change grips, install new housings or switches lately?
There is a small micro switch that your break lever keeps closed when the brake is at rest. This keeps your brake lite off.

If you have done any of the above mentioned work I'd bet that the housing has moved away from the c clamp just a bit.

Usually you just need to loosen the switch housing screws and force slide that housing back against the handlebar c clamp. This will properly position the front brake micro switch back where the front brake lever is depressing the micro switch when the brake lever is at rest thus shutting off the brake light.

Locate the rear switch and pull one the wires from the connector, making sure not to let it ground out. If the brakes are still on its the front switch. If brake light goes out and is activated by front switch its the rear.

if you do not hear a click when you pull front brake this switch is not working.

Same thing happened on my 12 Fatboy. If you push the front brake lever forward does the brake light go out? If so it may be your master cylinder. Thats what the problem with mine was.

Start here, the rear brake switch is on the plunger to the rear brake. Pull one wire and see if it goes off.
If not, try pushing in on the front brake switch, you may have a broken switch cap.

I also just had this problem occur last weekend. Or at least it became a problem then, was no doubt starting well before. Turned out that the front brake lever would not return all the way on its own, leaving the brake light switch engaged. I rebuilt the front master cylinder and flushed the brake fluid and put in new and bled the system. Now the lever returns like a champ and the whole system works even better. These brakes should be flushed with new fluid about every 2 years, since they tend to sit a lot over the winter and moisture gets in them. The o rings and seals end up swelling or getting contaminated with corrosion causing the master cylinder piston to not return properly.

Same deal happened to me. I broke the nub off the front brake light switch while changing bars.....$16.00 later, I was on the road.

My problem was the rear brake switch. It was also the easiest to check.
