Default CA Emissions Bikes

Curious what changes are made to the CA emissions bikes? Do the non CA bikes run cooler? Do they sound better stock? Have more power? It would seem the CA bikes are even more plugged up than normal?
Thanks!

The other 49 states usually follow California after a couple of years of CARB's newest regulations. Currently, I believe I read that all the bikes are currently the same, except for the addition of a vapor recovery system (charcoal canister?) on the California bikes.

What does a vapor recovery system actually do?

It stores fumes otherwise lost to the air, in a charcoal canister, when the engine isn't running. When the bike runs, the charcoal releases the fumes into the current combustion. I'm wondering if it is unsightly, as Harley makes a relocating bracket for it!

Most other states don't have the rubber seal on gas nozzles, either. We can actually see the gas pumping into our tanks!

Are CA bikes mapped to run leaner? Any other differences?

I think the catalytic converters are standard everywhere now. If mine has a charcoal canister I haven't seen it.They usually mount them at the bottom of the front frame tubes my 06 had one.Metric bikes used to have something called PAIR that pumped air into the cylinders during the exhaust stroke to lean out the exhaust so it would reignite in the head pipes.I pulled that off off my Suzuki and ran block off plates.I think I'm finally past trying to re engineer all that stuff at least until it screws up then it's gone.the difference between CA. and 49 state on my SV was 1 HP.

Thanks!
I'm still not exactly sure what makes CA bikes different besides a sticker that says calif emissions?? I purchased a bike from Indiana unaware of the emissions thing for bikes. DMV told me I had to get it smogged and everyone I went to said "What??" they never heard of a bike being smogged, so I went back to DMV a CHP inspected it (looked for a sticker) and saw nothing about calif emissions...a week later I got a notice that it had to be out of calif within 30 days !!

Can you bring an out of state bike to CA without CA emissions after it has 7500 miles on it? That was the impression I was under? Is that it can be registered in CA after that?

If you click around on the Harley link I posted above, it tells you that bracket is for 2014-13-12, and is used to remount the cannister it if an engine guard is mounted on a Dyna in the California and Asia-Pacific markets.

I know a few guys that imported out of state bike and they do need more than 7500 miles. Think it'sjust to cut down on having a relative buy out of state then "sell" it to you. Only difference in the bike I know of is the charcoal can.
