Watch for debris
So I'm cruising down I-35 from Austin to San Antonio. Music is blaring and I'm enjoying the ride. There is a mini van about 75 meters in front of me. The next thing I know I see is about a foot length of 2x4 coming straight at my head. I slightly duck as it hits my fairing and shoots strait up into the atmosphere. I never skipped a beat, but was a little ticked, the moron in the van just kept yacking on the phone as if nothing happened. Oh well. At least I survived to ride another day. Jeesh! Scuffed up my fairing a little. Hopefully a good polish will take it out.
I think I am going to cut and paste this for my two brothers. Just got back from our 10 day trip and I was giving them crap that they ride too close to the vehichle in front of them. My analogy was always, can you respond in time if the vehichle in front of you runs over a 2 x 4. Happened to me 25 years ago and I always have that mindset, ever since. Sure glad you are okay and assuming the 2 x 4 came from the mini van, hope you got their license plate.

There was actually a little debri on the road. I saw it from way back where I was. The idiot could have avoided it easy. But Nooo. I learned a long time ago, way back.
I was driving to close in traffic once and suddenly was confronted with a trucker retread laying in the road, $2000 worth of damage to my Mustang. I ride about 5000 miles a year on my bike and have had some close calls, but the closest calls were in my convertible with rocks, bolts and other debris bouncing down the highway high enough to fall on my head. I don't think we realize how much crap is out there when are protected in a hard top car. I dodged a tire rolling down the highway last week. It came from the on coming traffic side of the highway, but it was rolling my direction. How did that happen?
You can't let you guard down when riding. Be especially vigilante around pickups and open trailers. I've had plywood sheets, and a ladder fly at me on the highway. Yesterday on the freeway there was a full size refrigerator in the middle of the lane. Idiots to lazy and or stupid to secure their loads.

Dang! I see retreads all the time, but a refrigerator? Thats nuts.
Yeah, crazy I was in my truck. Lucky the shoulder was clear, had to drive around it. Lucky for me no tire carcasses or plastic car bumpers were there. A lot debris on the road.
I had a metal buckle from a tie down strap come flying at me, hit the batwing and went flying over my head. I was afraid to stop and look at the damage to my new bike, I got off the exit and reluctantly stopped to check the batwing.
To my sheer delight there wasn't a mark on it.
My ride bell or my guardian angel was on duty that day!!
