I use the Soos 3/4" extenders. Yes, they're more prone to scraping, but I find I can mitigate that by sliding off the seat towards the inside of the corner. When I scrape, it's because I've either boned up my corner mechanics or I'm going way, way too fast.
I have the extenders as well and when I rode the "Back of the Dragon" with my Dad the other month, not only did it grind my floor pans down, it even ground the rear floor board bracket.
Geometry tells you that you want be able to lean as far.
I have the HarleyGoodies extenders. They attach to the footboard bracket and extend out 1". You can see them on a Sticky Thread on this site.
Thanks Warden,
I looked at the sticky and it appears the brackets do move out with the floorboards. I would really like to do this mod but (as a few others have mentioned also) I tend to enjoy a spirited ride and regularly find my boards scraping as it is.
I wouldn't mind if the extension mounted between the bracket and the actual floor board as it would fold up out of the way, but I'm not sure the bracket hanging out 3/4 or 1" would be safe for me.
Just looked up the installation instructions for the Kuryakyn part #4588. It shows that these mount between the boards and the brackets. I wonder with these being forward 1" too if that would help eliminate some of the scraping?
I have the Harley Goodies extenders and I tend to scrape the brackets. I like the looks of the Kury extenders, because they also go forward an inch. Maybe Santa will bring me a set.
You would be road racers need to rework your suspension, especially the front and rear sag.I have had the HarleyGoodies 1" extenders on a 2005 RK,a 2009 Classic and now a 2013 RK, and have never ground a foot board.Guess I ride a touring bike like a touring bike.
