Default How cool is too cool.?

My cooling fan works like a charm, it is operated manually by switch... Now I am actually concerned if it's cooling too much....when the ambient is not too hot around 80-85 my engine temp would get up to 280-290 when stuck in gridlock traffic, once I turn on the fan it can drop down to 230-250 when moving and drop further down to 210-217 when idling, now I actually am concerned if 210-217 is too cool for the engine to operate properly... It is a manual switch controlled, so constantly monitoring CHT on my PV and turning on and off the fan constantly is getting tiring...should I be concerned with CHT dropping as low as 210.??

Are you measuring oil temp or head temp? Oil temp being too cool would depend on the point that the measurement is taken along it's path.

Short answer: No

The key is getting the oil temp high enough, long enough, to boil off condensates that accumulate in the system. Your overall operating conditions, as described, will do this.

That's no problem. My bike is FCS and Jagg cooled (no fan) and runs about 200-210 the past week or so with 60's temps.

You want it around 185 or above ideally I think. So you're still well above that.

Correction: OK hang on if you're talking CHT then I can't comment. I'm talking Oil Temps. Sorry for the mis-read of your post. Others can post on CHT as I do not monitor that.

This is important. Reaching full temp for long enough to boil out moisture and contaminants from condensation and startup. This takes about 20 min of riding at full temp (above say around 190'ish).

Sh**, I'd jump for joy if I was you! ;-)....and I think that around 180-190 is the bottom end temps, but others may want to weigh in that actually have a more thorough technical background....also, depending on your oils that your using, slightly higher temps- 220-230 may be a good thing if you running, say, straight 50w....

Hell yeah, I did chicken dance on the roadside when I realized my head temp went down to 240-250 from 280-320 on hot days....now I run closed loop from previously full open loop and still same low head temp...I just started became concerned when rain started to come recently and ambient temp started to drop, my CHT dropped down to 210 on idle....and I am running straight 60 Amsoil full syn, oil temp should be well below that...

Yes, to be on the safer side I always allow my CHT to go up to 280 before turning fan on...

what is normal CHT? I would keep notes on running & ambient temps, average cruise speed traveled without fans. say that result is 260 CHT. I would then turn on fan to keep temp at 260 CHT in all conditions.
why? something in memory says constant high to low temp changes cannot be a good thing
