really? it only takes about 5 minutes with a digi tech, whats that about 15 bucks or most shops will write that off if its there for another service....
cracks me up to see folks spend thousands to gain a few more HP and speed but nickel and dime the ability to stop safely...

Not sure what you mean orangevette, but the dealers don't charge 15 bucks for the bleed service on ABS bikes. They charge hundreds of dollars. That's why so many of us do it ourselves.

But if the bike is new, it shouldn't cost him a dime to have it put on a DigiTech if he can't get it bled at home. For that matter, if he just bought it from the dealer, new or used, it shouldn't cost him a dime.
I complained about soft/spongeee breaks and it was under warranty but they wanted to charge me $100 to bleed them. My request I was told...They said it was normal with ABS….Bunch of *** HOLES! Anyway the next time I complained the front break lever went right to the grip….Then they didn't want me to leave the parking lot….I bleed them myself but it must have had some air in the ABS housing….Not new to bleeding brakes either. No problems since with 40k later.
Sbates08, I agree. I was responding to orangevette suggesting that all it should cost to bleed brakes with the digitech is 15 dollars. That is not realistic. If you need to have a dealer do it (like I thought I did), they want hundreds of dollars. So when my apes were installed, and had issues, I did the bleed myself, and paid no one anything.

you must have pissed off your dealer. I started changing my rear pads and decided to have the shop finish it off...since I already had the rear pads they did it free of charge while getting my 15000 service. had to use the digi tech to bleed for rear brake...so, youre right it wasnt 15 dollars, it was free. I thought it realistic when I got the bill.
Not a chance orangevette. Never pissed them off and have a great relationship with the dealer. That is simply what they charge anyone. Don't assume that because yours did you a favor, that's standard procedure, because its not and having brakes bled on that machine is a pricey endeavor. That's why I said, thanks, but no thanks and did it myself with a home made pressure bleeding machine.
3&4 are compatible and can be mixed. The only difference is the boiling point...3-400 degrees & 4-450 degrees. If your not sure what's in your brake system you can pull a sample from it and mix it with a small amount of Dot4 in a small container and stir it up well. If after 30 mins of sitting they do not separate, then you have Dot3 or Dot4 in your system. If the 2 liquids do separate, you have Dot5. That's the only way I know how to tell for certain.

It sounds from the above that you don't usually do your own work. Nothing wrong with that just like there is nothing wrong with saving some cash and doing things yourself. I could afford to have my dealer perform the simple stuff like changing brake pads, bleeding brakes and getting my 15K service done but don't see the reason to...I can do it all myself and save the cash...I am just as good a wrench as most dealer "techs"...
