Default Riders backrest, fixed or adjustable?

Is it really worth the extra $100 +/- to go with the adjustable backrest? Seems like everyone has the adjustable, has anyone tried the fixed backrest? I rented a Classic last year and I think it had the fixed one, and it worked fine for me (I don't remember seeing that level on the left hand side at least).

With either one, how tough is it to swap seats? Say I were to put a solo seat or badlander style, could I do that easily and not have to take the backrest off of the original seat?

I had the one you are refering to as fixed, although it does adjust up and down and the pad has a screw to adjust forward and back. The mounting bracket mounts to the fender under the seat, so you would probably have to remove it to swap seats. I did not care for it. So for me, I would say save your money and go with a different seat.

As long as the fixed is comfortable for you, I like the adjustable for long trips.

I have the adjustable one on my street glide with a sundowner seat, it works well especially if you double. It needs to be all the way up so the wife can have some room for her legs if its down their is no room. A friend has the non adjustable one and I think it looks better, its thinner and set closer to the seat in the down position. If I was to buy one again I would get the fixed one just because it looks and fits so much better and take it off when I double, because either one doesn't give your passenger much room. The adjustable one is fat and sits to high unless its on a touring seat.
Good luck

I likemy adjustable. I like being able to adjust on the fly. If back is hurting I can sit it up if not recline it and relax.

I like my Mustang with adjustable. Goes up or down, screw on back sends it forward or backward. Its nice being able the alter it during a long ride.

I use the adjustable feature of my Mustang Backrest alot. As mentioned, the rider can reach back and adjust the fore/aft movement of the rest thru a range of about 2 inches. It works great for me while on a long ride and when using different resting positions for my feet. I don't know of any other manufacturers' back rests that are adjustable while riding. There probably are some. I am just not familiar with them. IMHO, I would go the extra for the adjustable. .......... BC
