Does any Ultra owner have these new fork deflectors made by HD on their bike with the lowers already on?
Sorry to chime in when I don't have an Ultra...I tried this yesterday on my Roadking with lowers and couldn't get it to work. Some folks say there is a way and I hope they pipe up. I would like to run both myself...I like the looks of the fangs and they are really functional.
i put them on my 2009 ultra to solve the wind buffeting on my bike. they stop the air that come under the fairing and over the lowers that blows up along the tanks and smashes u in the head. the only problem is in real hot weather u dont get enough air unless u open the wings on the bottom of the fairing. in cold weather they are great. I did have to slightly bent them forward to clear thew tips of the fairing adjustable wings though. I cut about 4.5 inches off the bottom of mine to let some more air get to the motor in the summer.. just cutting that little bit off changed how much air comes up around the tank.
have them on my 07 Ultra with the hard lowers on and no problem , the book says they won't fit but they fit mine just fine with a good 1/2 '' clearance with wheels turned as hard as I can , and they work really good
09 Ultra with lowers. I love these wind deflectors. Not only do they keep the air from coming up and hitting me in the face, but IMO, at higher speeds say 80 or 90 highway, the front end is more solid from the downward force of the air hitting them.
they didn't fit as is, I elongated the mounting holes and put each in a vice (wrapped so no scratches) and bent the deflector a little forward so to get full fork lock. In the summer, just open the fairing wind deflectors and the 09 lowers have vents too.
btw, I tried an aftermarket set of lowers made to fit with lowers and it didn't take many miles for me to put them on the shelf and go back to the HD chrome ones. so much better for higher speed riding.
I had a set of vented Kuryakyn's which barely cleared the lowers and were removed due to the lower mounting hols cracking through on both sides. Just ordered some black JES deflectors as they fit and will clear the lowers. (The local HD store said the HD deflectors will not clear the lowers...)
Just bend them forward after install. Make sure they are slid forward in their mounting holes as well. Put a small piece of velcro (the hard plastic hook side) on the lowers in case they slightly touch. Well worth the effort.
I thought they had some new ones that are made to work with lowers.I hope these aren't the ones you guys are having to bend and drill and cut to get to work.
