I find that simple hot water with a good car or motorcycle soap is the best way to remove all bugs. I wax atleast once a year, and then just use hot water/soap to keep her clean.
Two heavy coats of wax each year.........generally in the spring and fall. Do that for bikes and vehicles. My truck is nearly 20 years old and paint still looks great so it's obviously working.
I use what they call Bug slide. It works wonders with little to no rubbing. Spray on wipe off. Was demonstrated on a clear helmet visor and you couldn't scratch the shield with it.
As far as wax, I use a very good polymer sealant once a year and every couple months put a good coat carnauba wax over that for extreme depth. I use this method on my vette which is also black. I am very **** about my paint.
If you don't like swirl marks when you wash your bike rinse it good then use a good bike or car wash soap in 1 bucket wash your bike then rinse your rag in bucket #2 with clean water in between rubbing your painted surfaces to clean the dirt off the rag, rinse with a water hose then blow dry & then wax you shouldn't have swirl marks after.
I never was or wax my bike. I use Biker Spirits, spray on, wipe off. Works great, hasn't caused swirl marks on my black bike and works on paint, chrome, plastic or whatever. +1 on the water/hydrogen peroxide for bugs.

Hot water shouldn't be used ever ... It removes all protection ( waxes etc ) from the paint.
