question about heated gear
New Picture:

On the left is an HD Battery trickle charger pigtail purchased within the last year. On the right is a an HD heated gear pigtail purchased 2 weeks ago. The charger pigtail has a thicker wire gauge, thicker plastic insulation, stronger fuse container, better seal on the fuse container, and larger diameter on the battery connections. The heated gear comes with fuses from 3-20 amp. I put the 7.5 in just to screw with you. It say Gerbing's on that yellow label.
Thanks, I feel better. I'll buy you a beer sometime.
TLDR- the battery charger pigtail works fine with the heated gear provided you change the fuse to the correct amperage. Don't use a fuse larger than 20 amp.
Jacket: 6.4 amps
Pants 3.6 amps
Gloves 2.2 amps
Socks 2.2
Total Draw 14.4 amps . You would need at least a 15 amp fuse. New style heated gear has a coax connector, not the two pin flat Battery Tender connecter.
However, Coax to Flat adapters are available. I replaced the dealer installed light battery tender harness with the heavy Gerbing, and using the adapter I can hook up my Battery Tender.
Also appreciate all the info about the adapters from everybody.
Per the wiring diagram in the Service manual, MoCo routes this lead through the 20A P&A fuse in the fuse block.

Look at the size of the wire supplying juice to your 55 watt head light. Compare that to a Battery Tender lead. Now, consider your Gerging gear is drawing 14.4 amps. Your 55 watt headlight is drawing 4.5 amps (55 watts divided by 12 volts = 4.5 amps).
I have never thought it a good idea to replace a fuse with a heavier one, without first checking if the wiring is adequate. A 20 amp fuse will not screw into a 15 amp socket in old fashioned house wiring as an example.
Here's a link to an article you may find interesting. $300,000 damage to a college caused by a motorcycle charger.

Hammz has posted:
"My HD heated jacket liner is an older style that uses the 2 wire SAE style connector (as used for the Battery Tender leads). That said, all I need do to use my heated gear on my '14 Limited is simply plug the jacket controller into the factory supplied Battery Tender lead.

Based on Hammz information (Thank you!) : If you have a 2014 bike, you should have adequate wiring backed up by a 20 amp fuse. All others need to be checked! Changing a fuse doesn't change the wire gauge! Again, the new Gerbing heated gear comes with a coax connector, NOT the 2 wire flat SAE connector. Hence the need for an adapter, apparently now sold also by Harley. Gerbing makes the Harley heated gear, btw.
Kokemill, I love dark beer ! Thanks for the offer! Your post on the adapter is valid. You have to make sure you buy the right adapter, as they are sold both ways. You have to make sure you don't change the polarity on the adapter you buy.
Indidently, the "Battery Tender" sold by Harley is a "Battery Tender, Junior." It is .75 amp. For the same money, you can buy a 1.25 Battery Tender Plus with a ten year guarantee from non Harley vendors.
Also, Kokemill, I have a set of old style heated gear with the wires in the fabric. The bag of fused I received included a 20 amp.
My lady's new micro wire gear set came with a maximum fuse of 15 amps. I can't find any old info, but I think the old style gear drew more amps than the new micro wire. Hence the 15 watt was the heaviest fuse included with my lady's new micro wire Gergings.

If that is not adequate, you can always buy this and jack it up to 54 amps and nearly 800 watts!:
