Back in July I had a set of Progressive monotubes installed when I was getting a new front tire and brake pads. I absolutely love the ride and the lack of dive that the OEM shocks had. I went with the standard height model on my 09 FLHP.
I do have on annoyance...when I encounter washboard pavement I get a chirp out of the top end of the bike. This chirp or squeak was not present before the monotubes were installed. I reached out to Progressive on this a week ago and haven't yet heard back...Any ideas on what this could be?
I installed monotubes about a year ago. I did them myself and forgot to put oil in the forks, which is for nothing but lubrication. I took it back down after hearing the squeak and realized what I had done wrong. I want to say it was 5oz that was instructed to be in there by progressive. I still hear a little noise every once and a while when I rock it back and forth with the front brake locked up.
I found the source of the chirp. Each pipe has a rubber mount and these tend to get squeaky...here are a few threads on the topic. Before I had the progressive monotubes installed I was having the squeak on the left side. I solved the problem by applying some grease. Turns out this only solved the problem at idle. When riding the chirp I was hearing was not the new monotubes but the left rubber grommet. I had both replaced at my 25k service and the chirp is gone.
