I know there are lots of threads out there about this, but none that I found answered my specific question: How far off of stock do Progressive 440 12" shocks lower the bike?
Yup...I got the Harley lowering kit for both the front and rear and ithelps, but at 5'6" I am still a little uncomfortable at stops. I figure that, with the lowering kits, the bike probably went down 1/2" to 3/4", so the 11.5" 440"s would take it down another 3/4" to 1"...sound right? I just don't know if that is going to justify the money. I like the ride that I currently have and wouldn't be broken hearted to keep it.
Maybe I'll just get some platforms and call it even...
Sligarn5, I'm 5'6" too. I installed the eglidegoodies lowering kit -- think it was about 1.5 inches. It helped, but not enough to be comfortable, so I sent my seat off to Allen at MeanCityCycles in NC a couple of weeks ago. Allen said he could lower me another 2 inches plus add some memory foam to the seat, so worth a shot. Allen sent it back to me yesterday and I should be getting it tomorrow or Thursday. I'll let you know how it turns out. You may want to try it, too. BTW, he charged around $85 plus shipping for my mods.
Sounds like a good deal on the seat. I talked with Kevin at Hard Core Customs north of the river and he shot me an estimate of at least $300 to shave the seat and recover using the original material. Is it meancitycycles.com?

Thanks.
You have not indicated which bike you have, but if it's a bagger, I would not go with 12" shocks and a lowering kit. I feel it would be unsafe, chancing the tire coming in contact with the fender under certain conditions. Like others have said, go with different seat or have seat reworked by badx.

Yep, that's them. Allen Austin is the owner. Do a search here in the forum and you'll find some extremely positive reviews. I hope to send you one in the next day or two. Plus, cost is very reasonable.

Another issue might be the jiffy stand deployment/retracting. You might have some difficulty with the stock unit. Worth looking into.
Same issue with me at 5'4". Sent my stock seat to MeanCity last week. I have the 12" stock shocks on my RK Custom. Not going to go with the 11.5 Progressives, instead with seat fix and I am going to lower the front forks 1 ". The reach seat almost gets me flat footed with both feet also.
Thanks for the advice. I emailed Allen at about 1730 cst and got a response pretty quick. I think I will do the seat option and forego any further work on the suspension. The bike rides like it's on a cloud anyway, and I don't think that has much to do with the current saddle, so I feel comfortable having it worked over a little.
Then again, I heard about this little company on the west coast that sells a pretty cool on-the-fly adjustable suspension kit that they say will give about three more inches. What was the name...Draggin' Dresser's...Draggin' somethingorother...
