Hey all, first time posting in the bagger section. Thinking of trading my Wide Glide in for an 09 Road King with a side car. I have a V&H pro pipe 2:1 with a SE heavy breather on a 103 and I wonder if I am going to really feel the loss moving to the 96. Any suggestions on pipes or if it is worth it to do the 103 upgrade? I really like my 2:1, but I like the look of the fish tail slip on. I am wanting the sidecar for my son who has cerbral palsy to be able to ride with me. Thanks for any input or help.
How do you like your Road King? Do you have any good pipe suggestions? I found a dealer that has an 09 on consignment with a sidecar and I think I am going to pull the trigger. I just really like my bike and not sure I wanted to go with the bigger bike.
You and your son are going to love the Road King, plenty time for upgrades, if you decide to pull the trigger get to know the bike as it might fit the bill as is
I love the Road King. If it were me I would get the King to take my son out and be a very happy man. Even if the King had a 110" motor with the sidecar it will never feel as nimble and fast as you current bike. BUT it will be so much better to take your son out.
I absolutely LOVE my Road King! I rode bar hoppers and kidney beaters my whole life until I finally bought my first Road King this year. I think I just got spoiled. There are sooo many upgrades to this bike that you can do to personalize it and this bike makes a side car look bada$$! Pull that trigger brother!
And I have the stock headers with the CAT still in it with cutom baffled slip ons. Plenty of growl without the overly loud scream of the pipes. I have the stock 103 in mine and the only noticable difference I can tell is throttle reaction and a slight more torque. But you can get those with a slightly modified 96 too. Good luck on your purchase.
Do it man! Not just for you, but for your family too.
The King really doesn't handle like its heavy vs the Dyna. It has a great feel to it. Obviously, this one would be different because of the sidecar. And if I am not mistaken, also because the rake of the front forks is different too. But still, get it and enjoy it!
