Bought my '11 FLHTC with around 45K miles on it. Michelin Commander II in front and Metzler 880 in rear. Think i am around the 50K mark now and need a rear tire, front is good. Am leaning towards matching the rear to the front with the Commander II.
Michelins are good choice . My buddy has ran 2 sets of Metzlers, and 1 set of michelins. He just about wore the Metzler that's on his bike now.He said he's going back to the Michelin because the Metzler doesn't last as long.
I plan to put Michelins on my bike at the end of next summer.
From what I understand, the new Dunlap tires for touring bikes last for approximately 14k to 15k. Just bought my Road King new, so I don't know for sure how true my aforementioned statement is, so far I have 4500miles on the bike, they appears to still look new with no miles on them.

I have seen this to be the case. I have 10K on my 2012 and have 6 /32nds left.
Lotsa life left on it.
The Dunlops are really hard to beat. The German rubber wears out quickly/unevenly on the Metzlers unless you keep them slightly over-inflated. I ran a set of ME880s on my 04 ultra and that was my experience. Maybe I just had a funky set. The Michelin commander II seems to have a reputation of not doing well in the rain. Don't know if that is what everyone is experiencing, but I have read several posts from owners that were not happy. Some of the Commander owners say that the rubber needs a good break-in (abrading) and after that the performance is fine.
I have had none of these problems with Dunlap tires, so for now I am in that camp.
Good luck with your tire choice. Come back and share your experience.
My last 4 rears were 880s and I will be staying with the Commander IIs. Pretty happy so far with 5k on a full set. Never got more than 7.5k out of an 880 rear.
Continentals are one of the mainstream brands that get good reviews on HDF. However when changing brands from stock always check the correct pressures with your new manufacturer. Some use higher pressures than in your manual.
