Default U Bolts for additional saddlebag security?

New bags are in. I have them on with Brukus now but I am still concerned and looking for more ways to secure them to the bike. A few extra minutes to take them off is nothing once you have had your bags stolen. I am thinking maybe a u bolt or two around the bag rail they rest on. Has anyone done anything like this? The hope is that bolts are enough of an added hassle for people to move on but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

If you have done this please let me know exactly how. Maybe a washer on each side of the bag on the outside and the inside with a bolt. Curse the soul that stole my bags. May they reap what they sew.

Lets get some more ideas going here. It is all trivial "you don't need that stuff, save your money" until it happens to you. If this thread can keep one person with their bags and possessions it is worthwhile. So that being said Go!

Looks like it is a major problem out west, not so much here on east coast, the Brucus security bolts make it difficult unless they have a key????,so one more obstacle should stop them

I made these to be able to use a bolt and nylon insert nut. You can never make them 100% theft proof, you just want them to move on to an easier target. U-bolts would probably work great, but the advantage of these is that when the thief sizes up your bike he may see it has been hardened and move on to an easier target. He won't know you have U-bolts till he has already broken your lock.

I used U-type fasteners. I was more concerned about the bags falling off VS theft. I only used the u-type fastener on the rear bolt. The first bolt I left the OEM set up.

Point taken on moving on to the next and this could possibly cause more issues like broken bags. I already have what you guys are showing which is a speed nut or whatever it is called and a torx plus bolt that threads in to it. I just want to make sure my bags stay on my bike.

The Brukus is very similar to what you made rwhisen. Your is a little more stout by the looks of it but the same idea. Once this happens it changes the way you think.

I saw another solution and that was a Masterlock. Don't know if this interests you but something to consider.

I saw that too. I was thinking additional to the way the bag normally attach with the two pins, bolts, or locks. Maybe overkill but I want those bags there in the morning when I get ready to go to work.

I understand completely! Bags aren't cheap.

I went the Masterlock route. Fits nice and tight.
