Default Newbie Question on Exhaust?

First off, this is my first HD coming from a metric. I did a search but could not find my answer. I bought a 08 SG that has some extras, which seem to be more chrome than anything. I bought it from a private individual that had no idea what was stock and what wasn't.

My question is, do all slip on's have a stamp or manufactures name on the
pipes? The pipes that are currently on the bike seem to be louder than stock but are not marked at all. Baffles are still in...

Second question, can I change the stock air filter to a larger KN and still use the derby cover that's on the bike now? ( note) the derby cover seems to have more of a lip on the cover than most I've seen. It covers more of the filter on the sides.

1) no not all after market are marked, my rush slip ons had no markings on them at all.
2) the derrby cover has nothing to do with air filter. derby cover is on the clutch side of bike. see pic

Might try searching a little more, do a little research in the online Parts & Accessories area of the HD website. Hell, go visit a dealer or local mechanic if you're new to HD. Go ride and ask other riders. To answer your questions:

1) As I recall my stock exhaust mufflers had no markings. So, I'd say not all. If they're quality products they generally have a manufacturers mark/logo. They may also have at least a part number stamped somewhere, but it would be located somewhere where you won't easily find it when it's installed on the bike.

2) Yes, you can put a larger air cleaner (K&N or other) and still use the same Derby Cover. No problem.

P.S. The "Derby Cover" and the "Air Cleaner" have nothing to do with one another other than they're both on your motorcycle. But, I'm sure you found that in all your 'research'. And, by the way . . . nice looking bike.

thanks for the help...and the complement...sorry on the confusion in reference to the derby cover. Can't seem to locate another air filter cover that has the additional side covering that this has.
As I'm located in Pa and the weather sucks at 11 degrees this morning, I wish I could ride. This going to be a long winter for me since I just got it in the garage on Mon. lol

Those look like stock mufflers but that is a true dual exhaust header system that I dont know who made. It also appears that you have the screaming eagle stage 1 intake on that bike already but they do make a K&N filter that will replace that filter that came with it. IF it doesnt already have it on there.

that's my next step is to pull the cover on the intake and see what filter is in there. Kind of like the look of a thinker filter that would be exposed on the sides. Buddy of mine has a set of screaming eagle slip on's that he would sell me cheap. But trying to see what I have first. Thought I would do pipes,filter,pc-V

i agree those do look like a stock slip on, can you take a close up pic from behind looking into slip on? thats a pretty easy way to tell. stock will only have little hole, after market usually are larger. if that make sence

Its a safe bet that the bike has been tuned either by the dealership with a SERT or a tuner of some kind. The air filter is a stage 1 kit and likely has the KN filter in it already. I would check with the dealer/shop the previous owner frequented to see if the work was done there and they might be able to tell you whats been done to it. If it has a performance cam you might be able to tell just by the way it lopes. It looks really nice and looks like the upgrades was done professionally.

I would venture to say aftermarket true dual headers with a re-cored stock muffler.
