I'm new to the Harley world. I've got some questions that may seem like common sense to some of you, but I'm baffled by the differences in these bikes from one production year to the next. The only stupid question is the one left unasked....
I've got an '05 Ultra Classic with the 88ci motor. It's got stock exhaust that HAS to go. A family friend has a set of Vance and Hines True Duals from an '08 Road King (95ci motor). He has offered to give them to me at no cost, but is unsure if they will fit my bike. I understand these are different motors, but are the exhaust ports different sizes? It seems to me these bikes are similar mechanically. They just appear different cosmetically.
The part numbers of the True Duals on V&H's website are different for each bike, but I don't know what the differences are. It seems they would be the same length and diameter for both bikes. As I understand it, the '08 has an O2 sensor hole, but I think a plug can be purchased for those.
Basically, can I make these free pipes fit my bike? And if not, what are the differences?
I believe the difference in the part number are the O2 sensor flanges and yes they can be plugged. There should be no problem with the fit. The exhaust ports are the same. You can call Vance and Hines tech support and they will tell you for sure.
I have an 08 system on my 1990 bike, with the O2 ports plugged. As your friend owns them you could ask to trial fit them, just to be sure you are doing the right thing!
